About Grosse Pointe Family Disco
All across the country, kids love disco, dancing and music as they transform the hippest night clubs into child proof discos as toddlers, pre-schoolers and parents looking for a break from the routine playground circuit let loose for some post naptime, or pre-dinner fun. Make no mistake, this is NOT the Mickey Mouse club, and Barney is Banned. Grosse Pointe Family Disco is a Saturday afternoon dance party featuring real music spun and mixed by real djs blending classic disco tunes from the 70s, & 80s guaranteed to get those little booties moving and grooving.
The fun spills out from all corners of Robusto's: baskets of scarves and egg-shakers, a chill-out area (with tents, books and puzzles), diaper changing stations, a full spread of healthy snacks and dancing, LOTS of dancing. But at it’s core, Grosse Pointe Family Disco is a community event that brings kids together, parents together and friends together. The brain child of Melissa Emily, a Grosse Pointe native, mom and promoter for Eminem; got the idea in New York, as she witnessed an alternate and ultimate way to bring music and entertainment to young kids. “As a parent, we’re always looking for something new and different to do with the kids,” says Melissa whose lifestyle (like most parents) was changed when she gave birth to her daughters.
The weekly event is anticipated to be sold out, as parents and kids have a blast, but the real bonus was that parents can have a great time too. It’s more than just something to do for the kids, Grosse Pointe Family Disco is fun for parents, as you get the chance to mingle with other parents, dance with your kids and have a Saturday afternoon cocktail to boot.

What is Grosse Pointe Family Disco ? What are the details? Is there a structure to the event?
Grosse Pointe Family Disco is a family event, there is no structure, just plenty of environment, atmosphere and healthy snacks. There is music spun by the DJ with lights floating over the the dance floor- to get the mamas, papas and little ones moving. There are egg shakers, play scarves and a chill-out space with pillows, stuffed animals, books and toys/puzzles.. There are balloons to enjoy and take home as well as the snacks for both kids and adults, plus the bar is open for non-driving adults.
Each event is a bit different from each other but there are surprises to be found from goody bags and give-aways to mommy massages and daddy game rooms. We work with local mommy groups, sponsors and businesses... so if you have something to share or suggest, please let us know.
What ages is this event for? What is the age limit? Can my older/younger child attend?
We created Grosse Pointe Family Disco for kids 6 months through 10 years and their friends and family.. older/younger siblings, grandparents, nanny and best friend are all invited.... But, ultimately, you must be this judge: Does your child like being around others? music? dancing? lights? Try it out. My son has had very different reactions to the event over the years. Sometimes he just wants to snack and read a book, other times he finds a friend to hang- out and play with and sometimes he just wants to dance, dance, dance!
